Controlling and monitoring the project. During the execution phase the project must be controlled. Receiving early warnings that the project is varying in terms of time, quality and/or cost is vital in order to correct the position. Regular reviews will be undertaken and the project manager will have a system (such as a traffic light approach) to demonstrate at a glance which parts of the project are on target, where closer inspection is required and where action is needed. Controls will be in place for: Time. Quality. Cost. Controlling time. Time can be managed through the use of milestones. Milestones are key stages in the project marked by the completion of significant events. Milestones usually signify key deliverables and contribute to the production of the work breakdown structure. This enables early identification of problems so that corrective action can be taken. Milestones will be marked on the Gantt chart and the project manager will be checking on a regular basis to ensure that the work will be completed on time.
