Is the Project environment understood? A specific area that falls under the “environment” umbrella that is particularly important are the project stakeholders, those individuals or groups who have some kind of interest in the project. Stakeholder management is one of the key activities of project management, it can be particularly important both to avoid difficulties in the project and to maximize its chances of success. Failing to understand the positions of different stakeholder group can have catastrophic effects on a project. Managing stakeholders in the public and the not for profit sectors can be additionally difficult because of the diverse nature of their issues. Considerable resources need to be deployed throughout the life of the project on stakeholder management.. A useful approach to Stakeholder management is to classified them by their degree of interest in the project and their power to influence it. Animation with voice over. Voice over as follows: Stakeholders can be classified in terms of their interest in the project and the amount of power they yield. Stakeholders with low interest and low power should be monitored because as the project (or their knowledge of the project) progresses their position may change
Stakeholders with a high interest but low power like to be kept “in the loop” make sure that there is regular, timely communication to these groups. Stakeholders with low interest but a large amount of power need to be satisfied. They may not be very interested in your project but, often, if they feel that their interests are not being upheld they can wield their power.
Stakeholders with high interest and high power need minute by minute, day by day management. Keep them informed, keep them involved, keep them on-side.
